[Master Thesis-jobb på engelska]
-In collaboration with Volvo Penta-
Thesis background
Today we have structured data ready and have now started to look into what possibilities this enables. These possibilities includes running machine learning algorithms on our data. We would therefore like you to investigate what algorithms can be run on this data, and what issues we need to address. As a first project we would like to implement automatic detection of engine driving cycles. These drive cycles will later be used to optimize electro mobility drivetrains and systems including need of range extender and charging schedules.
Thesis scope of work
Aim
The aim of this thesis work is to identify and implement ML algorithms on real data that is received from Penta engines for the purpose of identifying engine driving cycles.
First step
For this you will need to examine:
• Data that is sent from our Penta engines, ie time resolution and diagnostics data
• How data from different teams, eg Diagnostics team, Test cell, after market and Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT) can be integrated with our data.
• If we have enough and correct data to get engine driving cycles
Based on this examination, implement appropriate ML algorithms for engine driving cycle detection and, if times allows, other applications.
Second step
• What other ML algorithms can be suitable to run on our engine data.
• Future ML possibilities or ideas for Penta 6 months/3 years.

About us
The Volvo Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine and industrial engines under the leading brands Volvo, Renault Trucks, Mack, UD Trucks, Eicher, SDLG, Terex Trucks, Prevost, Nova Bus, UD Bus, Sunwin Bus and Volvo Penta.
With Volvo Penta, a world-leading supplier of engines and complete drive systems for marine and industrial applications, you will be part of a global and diverse team of highly skilled professionals who works with passion, trust each other and embraces change to stay ahead. We make our customers win.
The field test group is divided in two main areas; field test activities and data management. The field test activities are divided into Marine- and Industrial product segments. The field test engineers are responsible for test objects connected to selected OEMs or customers and for a specific engine range depending on the projects. The responsibility covers planning and start-up of field tests objects as well as support during the test execution, and completion of test.
Data management team has the responsibilities to structure data and build data science tools. We are working on setting up database structures from raw data, building advanced querying tools and general data driven production coding.
